The X
Cross your forearms over your chest, fists up by your shoulders.
Two ways to turn any Snap Street Band song into a whole-class activity: a class move the room votes on, and lip-sync crews of four, one kid for each member of the band. Works with Seven's Got the Groove (7s) · Eight on the Beat (8s) · Nine Hit the Line (9s).
The class moves
Show the room these six moves, then let them vote on the one they want. The whole band does every move, so kids can pick their favorite member to copy.

Cross your forearms over your chest, fists up by your shoulders.

Arms straight down, a little out from your sides, fists to the floor.

Both arms up high and wide, fingers spread.

One arm up and out, pointing. Other hand on your hip.

Hands up by your shoulders. Snap on the beat.

Strike a dance pose and hold it perfectly still.
Activity 1 · about 10 minutes
Choose one answer from the song, like 56 in Eight on the Beat. Write it big on the board.
Show the six moves and take a vote: hands up, sticky notes, or the tally sheet in the PDF. The winner is the class move.
Every time the band sings the target answer, the whole room hits the move and holds it for one beat.
In Round 3, the room has to hit the move before the band sings the answer. Early is the whole point.
Level up
Give every answer in the song its own move. Here is one way to do Eight on the Beat. Let the class vote on their own version with the planner in the PDF.
| When the band sings… | Everybody does… |
|---|---|
| 8 × 7 = 56 | The X |
| 8 × 4 = 32 | Fists Down |
| 8 × 9 = 72 | The V |
| 8 × 5 = 40 | The Point |
| 8 × 8 = 64 | The Snap |
| 8 × 6 = 48 | The Freeze |
Activity 2 · about 25 minutes
Put kids in crews of four. Each kid is one member of Snap Street Band.
Lead singerLip-syncs the lead vocal lines.
SingerLip-syncs the other vocal lines.
GuitaristPlays air guitar and leads the class move.
DrummerPlays air drums and keeps the crew on the beat.Play Round 1 once. The crew listens for which voice sings each line and decides who will lip-sync what. Use the crew planner in the PDF.
The guitarist and drummer pick the class moves the crew will hit on the answers, using the six moves above.
Ten minutes to rehearse with the song. Mouth the words, play the air instruments, nail the moves on the beat.
Each crew performs Round 2 for the class. The audience joins in for Round 3 and tries to beat the band to every answer.
Filming? Follow your school’s rules on recording students. A grown-up can share a crew video with #SnapStreetBand.
More ideas
Everyone holds The Freeze during Round 3 and only breaks it to shout an answer before the band. A quick look shows which facts the room knows.
Each row of desks owns one answer and its move. Keep the relay going through the whole song.
Finish with the free practice sheet for the same table, or a round of the Beat the Beat game on the projector.
